T-Minus 10,000 Hours…

Drew Taylor | Owner/CEO

Thank you so much for taking time out of your busy lives to read a few words of inspiration & more importantly for supporting Selfmade Threads.

I am so excited to dive into the content of this site, but first before you read any further let me suggest that you visit & read the previous blog or simply click on the Manifesto tab to really get an idea of what I plan to accomplish with this site & Selfmade Movement.

Now that you’re up to speed, I hope that our vision gives you a better understanding of what it means to live a “selfmade” life. It has nothing to do with the flash, fame or titles… but everything to do with living a fulfilled existence.

I come into contact with people almost on a daily basis who are unsatisfied, discontent & completely unhappy with where they are in life. At one point I was in the same boat; I’d assume that after tirelessly rowing upstream day after day, at some point everything would come together & I would just be… happy?

If you haven’t figured it out yet, life doesn’t exactly work that way. It’s all about reverse engineering your ideal situation from the picture of perfection you have built up in your mind. However, simply wishing for something doesn’t make it come to fruition. It takes ACTION & a heck of a lot of it.

There’s a book that I highly recommend reading if you haven’t already called “Outliers” written by an esteemed Canadian journalist/author, Malcom Gladwell. In his book Outliers, Malcom covers the major factors that contribute to one’s success vs. another’s failed attempts to succeed in the same field. He goes on to explain that the one major element to success is simply the amount of time spent on a specified project, talent or trade which he refers to as “the 10,000 hour rule.”

Therefore if someone can achieve outstanding mastery in any subject as long as they’ve spent at least 10,000 hours working to perfect that craft, why couldn’t we apply this same rule to life in general & create a happy, accomplished & selfmade existence in the process?

For those who already know the secret; happiness is an inside job. Hence, if we know that it takes time & practice to construct the desired outcome, why aren’t we dedicating a substantial amount of time each day to creating this utopian lifestyle while also encouraging others to do the same?

I’d like to step out & personally urge you to write up your own manifesto; hang it on your mirror or put it beside your bed. Read it every morning before you start your day & once again before retiring for the night in order to begin directing your focus & thought process to creating your own selfmade life.

Your 10,000 hours starts now!
